Role-Call of the Subjects Empty
PostSubject: Role-Call of the Subjects   Role-Call of the Subjects EmptyMon Feb 01, 2010 8:35 am

L had been given the task of assigning the Assassins of the Order, who are now being held in the captivity of Novus Unus Laboratories their roles as Subjects, and informing them of their schedule. The majority of the Assassins were new to the Novus Unus Laboratories, so, L himself had been expecting quite a lot of detainees. He was given this task specifically because he had his share of time with the Lab, and they started giving him responsibilities because of it, particularly because of achieving his expectations quite often with the Animus 3.5. The Assassins were all expected to unify in the center of the Lab, particularly outside in its Courtyard. L held a clipboard in his arm, and calmly entered the Courtyard.
Outside; the sun beamed down against the Nevadan desert. The Courtyard itself had a center full of grass, and a few trees around the perimeter. Already there were a few Assassins outside, lined up in an orderly fashion. They were new to the brainwashing process the Modern-Day Templar were so good at practicing. He stood still, there wasn't an expression on L's face as he plainly waited for the other Assassins to arrive. Most were expected to come on time, for if they didn't they were normally punished severely for their disobedience, such as a lack of a meal out of the three traditional meals the Subjects got. L was of course dressed in his all-white uniform. A white hoodie, white jeans, white shoes, a very disciplined-nature character.

Alicia took a deep breath as she walked outside into the hot and bright courtyard. Shielding her eyes she walked slowly to the line of other captured assassins. She stood next to the other few, slouching in comparison to the rigid members already gathered. She looked up at 13 with a mixture of emotions. Rage for being forced under his command and rage at the Templar for capturing them and yet pain and compassion towards him, regarding how it must feel for him to do this, even if he wasn't aware of his own emotions and thoughts. She had her Cross tied around her neck, and it was reflecting the light of the sun into various positions around the courtyard due to the many jewels and diamonds on it and although it was a small trinket, it brought her hope like no other object. Her ancestor Roze had bought this cross, and in Alicia's mind she bought it for each and every "Son" or "Daughter" she would ever have, and if things panned out the way Alicia thought they would, she might very well be The Butterflies' last daughter. Pulling her eyes away from her Cross and 13, she looked straight ahead awaiting instructions and a chance to go back into the Animus.

Kota stood in line. He was shuffling his deck of playing cards to ease his nerves. He looked at 13 then at a girl who, from what it looked, didn't know what to make of any of this. She was a person down from him. Right now they were in any order. They were probably be put in order of capture soon. He looked around, looking at the courtyard.

Role-Call of the Subjects Empty
PostSubject: Re: Role-Call of the Subjects   Role-Call of the Subjects EmptyTue Feb 02, 2010 6:39 pm

L examined the clipboard given to him by one of the Professors of the Novus Unus Labs, perhaps a greater-positioned Professor, for, he knew a lot about management. On the pairs of paper were listings, and codes of conduct. The usual business when it came to disciplinary action. It was important for the Templar to keep their experiments on a leash, and L understood this, however, he is too demoralized to do anything about it in response. After examining the clipboard for just a few seconds, he had everything imprinted into his memory. He looked up at the two Rows of Subjects coldly; he knew there would be more Rows with time. He exhaled his breath, and prepared to speak up. "First of all, I am to test your obedience, and organize each of you accordingly." L stated plainly, as if lacking compassion. "Subject 43, step forward." After ordering Subject 43, he stepped forward as told. Instantly, almost instinctively, L checked a part of the papers clipped into his clipboard. "Subject 11, step forward." Subject 11 did as she was told, and stepped forward. L then motioned her to get to the left of Subject 43. It was a very simple organization... But, organization wasn't actually the key to this test. It was a test of obedience, the "newcomers" certainly some, would listen, and some wouldn't. It was natural. "Subject 4, step forward." Subject 4 stepped forward, and got into a prepared posture, standing tally. L motioned Subject 4 to stand next to Subject 11. L continued going through the list. This group of Subjects were more obedient, it made his job simpler... Well, the Labs job simpler. With each obedient response to L's command, another Assassin's 'Name' was checked off on the list, and their position recorded. On paper, and in L's mind. After about 12 minutes of obedience, L got to the middle of the list. "Subject 16, step forward." He waited for the Subject to respond.

Alicia heard her number being announced and took two steps forward, not looking at 13, through fear that the sight of his face would enrage her to engage in a fight with him, and after putting together all that she's heard she would lose. Hearing about something called the "Bleeding Effect", he'd be incredibly in tune with his Ancestor, when she had only seen a picture of Roze. Her stance loosened after a few seconds, showing her with a bit of a slouch and her "Tiger stripe" covering her right eye. She was anxious to get this over with and yet the day just seemed to drag on and on and on.

Kota continued to shuffle. It seemed they were being called out of order. After every one else was called he was called. He took two steps forward then walked back in line. He put the cards in his pocket. Everyone was quiet and it was killing him. He wanted to do something, standing still was never a strong point for him. He pulled out his deck again and began throwing the cards in the air one by one and catching them. It was a basic trick, but it looked cool.

Role-Call of the Subjects Empty
PostSubject: Re: Role-Call of the Subjects   Role-Call of the Subjects EmptyTue Feb 02, 2010 7:07 pm

Subject 16 had obediently listened to L's orders, or at least the Labs orders. L wasn't familiar with any other Assassin, he was very anti-social. He lost his personal ambition, a broken man indeed. One who only focuses on the present, his future in the darkness, and his past slowly fading... He knew his memories would never leave him. Sometimes his gift was more of a curse. His memories would forever haunt L. The one thing he had clung on to which he probably shouldn't have, was his pendant. In the center an old engraving; an intertwining symbol representing possibly his families history... A tragic history indeed, or, so L felt. L motioned Subject 16 to line up with the rest, which she had done. "Subject 17, step forward." L ordered. Ever since he merely peaked at the clipboard about half an hour ago, he had remembered all of its content. Subject 17 had also stepped forward, putting away the only thing the Templar really allowed him to have. It was a distraction tactic, a clever trick played... The Templar were masters of these tricks. L motioned Subject 17 to line up to the right of Subject 16. Before L could move on, he heard nearby, the fluttering of cards in the air. L instantly knew who it was. He turned his head, staring at Subject 17 coldly. "Put your cards away now, or I will be forced to enforce the Labs Code of Conduct." He ordered. It seemed like everyone around him went silent, his very voice was a thing not often heard. It expressed intolerance, a trait L must've adopted from the Templar. He continued staring at Subject 17 coldly, he was certainly stern. A man that stuck to the Rules of the Lab. He waited, expecting Subject 17 to obey. His progress had halted... For now.

Alicia looked over at "17" and watched the cards flutter back into his hands for a moment, before smiling. It'd be fun to know someone with talents like his, it would also be interesting to see him bout with "13" which is definitely what they were headed for if he decided to defy him. She raised her cross to her lips for a bit and kissed it in prayer, hoping that the violence didn't happen and if it did, that it was extremely entertaining. She like some of the non-submissive detainee's looked at "17" to see what his response would be. All of them probably hoping for the same thing.

Once the cards were in his hands he put them away and pulled out 3 other cards. "Let me tell you a story." said Kota. "There was a man that showed me this there were 3 cards, This, This, and that." As Kota said the card names he showed them. "The man put the cards in an order and asked me were that was. So I said the middle, it was a this card." He showed the this card then put it back. "So i said the top and it was a this card." He showed the other this card. "So i said ok it's the bottom but it was a this card." Kota showed the bottom card and it said This on it. "Then i said ok now your tricking me, but the guy the that card was in the middle." Kota showed the middle card and it was the that card then put it back. "The man then said in life you get a little of this." He took the top card that said This then put it in his pocket. "A little of That." he did the same with the that card. "And a bit extra." He showed the bottom card, but it didn't say This like it should, it said Extra. He put the three cards away. 13 couldn't get angry at him for having the cards out now.

Role-Call of the Subjects Empty
PostSubject: Re: Role-Call of the Subjects   Role-Call of the Subjects EmptyTue Feb 02, 2010 7:56 pm

L had ignored all others around him. His eyes were laid keenly on Subject 17, the one man who decided to take action when he shouldn't have. He continued glaring at Subject 17 coldly. Apparently, L hadn't disturbed Subject 17's little tricks. Nonetheless, L kept maintained his collect and calmness. Subject 13 went through a little lecture, or perhaps not even a lecture... More of a past experience, an analogy. He was giving L a message. One that indirectly said "I do what I want." a phrase L didn't like to hear... Or in this case, sense. After remaining still, completely ignoring those glancing around, Subject 17 had finished his first display of tricks. ...Now certainly wasn't the time for such nonsense. For Subject 17 to openly defy L's command, the Templar's command, it was frustrating. It had been so long, almost two years, that L had felt that free-will was annoying. Quickly, using his comparatively enhanced speed, he had astonished the other Subjects around him. It was the bleeding effect. He bore a lot of his Ancestors skills already. Almost instantly, or what seemed instant, L had popped in front of Subject 17. He had used his right hand, to wrap around Subject 17's wrist, and twist it; forcing 17 to drop his renewed cards to the ground. "There will be no more of your tricks... Now, remain within your bounds 17!" L had ordered threateningly. He knew what the Templar were capable of. This was actually a treat, he was certain that if a Templar were to react to 17's courage, it would be a lot more threatening. Even though L had snapped 17's wrist, the thought of 17 remaining as rebellious as he had just been was in the back of L's mind. He wouldn't know what to do with 17 if he continued. He stood there, scowling now; glaring deep into 17's eyes... Remaining in place until 17 did as he was told.

Alicia watched in astonishment as "13" appeared in front of 17. She took a step back in surprise before catching her breath again and looking at 17's broken wrist. She sighed wishing she hadn't seen that. It was a metaphor, all hope was to be lost. The way the cards fell to the floor and the wrist broken was the Templar silencing every cry for help and each fallen tear. Turning away from the display she was hit by a sudden wall of emotion and choked up a little. She ran her hand under her eye, wiping away a stray tear trying to show that she still had some control, although the sob she emitted, dispelled any rumors on that presence.

"And I guess this is the extra that man told me." said Kota trying his best to ignore the sharp pain. "Unlike you 13 I'm not so weak willed, I can tell. One thing happens and you let get it in your way? This is a guess tell me if I'm wrong." 13 said that he broke bounds. "How did I?" he questioned. "I put my playing cards away and you just like the rest of us, an assassin, well your more of a templar now. But that's what happens when you get broken." He didn't care who this guy thought he was or what he knows. Kota would rather die then be made into an example. "Very nice, however, quick twist, not good in combat however."

L was being attacked by Subject 17's strong will. He continued staring at Subject 17... However, his scowl had ended. L closed his eyes... To further his actions would do him no good. But, what was he to do to end it, and continue with his task? Kill the Assassin? He wouldn't kill an unarmed opponent... Or at least this one in particular, a young man, his courage was admirable. Nonetheless. He decided not to say a word, if he continued, he'd only reveal feelings that would weaken his image in his captors eyes. As if nothing had happened, L had ignored Subject 17, and stood in the position he had formerly been in. He began calling out Subjects once more... This time however, everyone was silent. Perhaps it was disadvantageous for him to allow Subject 17 to completely insult his authority over the other Subjects. However, as the naming continued, no one dared defy L. They saw the pain he had dealt physically to Subject 17, and that alone expressed his growing ruthlessness. The emotional aspect of the event wasn't as significant to the majority of the Assassins. L continued checking off names after organizing them. Soon, his task would be complete.

Alicia took some time to regain her composure as the checking of the list continued. When Subject 27 was called she was back to normal, standing in the line with tear tracks on her face but besides that she showed no form of having even smiled recently. She looked down at "17"s hand and cringed again not trying to look at it. She looked down on the floor noticing the cards before looking back up at 13. As Subject 28 stepped forward she crouched down and began scooping up the cards. She picked up the 52nd and leveled the cards into a single shape. Standing up once more she turned the top card over and saw the 8 of Clubs. She looked at 13 for a bit before looking back at 17, wondering what was going to happen next. If she was to be assaulted, than she was to be assaulted but she'd put up a fight. Even if it meant punishment and degradation, the sadness she felt before had turned into rage and she needed a release. She didn't see an Animus in the area so this'd have to do.

"The 8 of clubs, I would show you a trick but can't." said Kota to 16. "13 is broken, he is in worst condistion then I am." Kota grabbed his wrist and snapped it back into place with a crack. He pulled a long cloth out of his pocket and used it as a make shift cast. "He doesn't seem to have any allies, that could be bad here, so what you say? Friends?" Kota cringed a bit as he tightened the knot on his make shift case. "And don't call me 17, I'm not a number, my name is Kota."

L had finally finished the checklist. Every single Subject except Subject 17 had defied L's orders... The Templar's orders. He was certain the Subjects were all concerned as to what would happen next. L paused only for a moment. "...Now that you are all organized, you may begin your recess. The period you have to spend outside is approximately 60 minutes. Dr. Sanchez advises you all to get your exercise, for after this you will be returning to the Animus for another 6 hours." L had informed his fellow subjects. To most he was a symbol of authority, to few, he was a symbol of what the Templar were capable of. The sad thing is... He understood this.

After L's announcement the other Subjects had returned to their routine outside in the Courtyard. The sun was still out and shining brightly. The trees gave off some shade for the Subjects to cool down under. According to protocol he would have to suspend Subject 17 of his recess. However, there was still some sign of loyalty to the Assassins within L, and something had caused him to refuse doing so. He should have also taken Subject 17's cards which he realized were now off the grass, and probably within Subject 17's possession once more. While everyone began spending the only time they normally had outside, L had walked calmly towards a bench beneath a tree. He sat alone and observant. In the midst of his curiousness, he had activated his Eagle Vision. His eyes iris went from grey to a shining gold color. Everyone was blue in his eyes. ...He wasn't surprised.

Alicia smiled at Kota and introduced herself. "Alicia Rhodes, also known as Inmate 16." She handed over the deck of cards, with a smile on her face. "It'd be great to have some friends here... I might even meet you in the past, now wouldn't that be interesting." She laughed a bit before looking over at a secluded area in the yard where 13 was seated. She looked at Kota, briefly before sighing and beginning to walk over to 13. She tried her best to keep her muscles loose and show no rage on her face. She was going to speak to the tired Assassin, and see if she could break through the drone that had replaced him.

She sat down on the bench next to 13 and looked at him sparsely before speaking. "Forgive me if this goes against the Subject/Master Subject terms of agreement but I was compelled to speak to you." She paused piecing together her next few sentences carefully. "I suppose the only way to really start this conversation would be to go through with formalities. Well, allow me to reintroduce myself, My name is Alicia. We met before when you read my prisoner number off of the chart." She extended her right hand or a handshake, hopefully she wasn't reaching too far.

Kota took the cards. "Good luck with that. He doesn't seem like that chatty type if you need me I'll be against that wall" Kota wlked over and sat down at the wall. He watched Alica trying to befriend 13. Kota doubted anything would happen. 13 was skilled enough to escape but was to broken to. Kota looked around at the walls. They were smooth until a cirten point. If there was a way to that part someone could possibly escape.

(OOC: Richter, your Character won't be able to escape... And if he does, he'll be easily tracked down again. It is way too soon to actually plan on escaping, but, you could simply be playing your role without that intention.)

L continued sitting down, he was plainly observing everyone else. Secretly however, he was also surveying them, remember their every speech and movement. Their actions in general as they continued tending to their activities. He had a sharp eye on the one kid who dared to rebel against the Templar, it was shocking. Subject 17 would've been killed if it wasn't another Subject he was speaking to so revoltingly. It wasn't shortly that he realized another Subject was coming his way. It was Subject 16... She still wasn't all that familiar with Novus Unus Labs either. He could feel her body heat as she took a seat next to him. He didn't turn to face her. She had mentioned a Subject/Master relationship. "I am no one's Master. The Templar are our Masters." He reminded her of her position. She greeted herself once more. "Hello Subject 16." He replied apathetically. He wasn't even looking at her, and his tone was very mono. He wasn't a man to keep up a conversation; at least not anymore. He could feel her body heat moving a bit, he knew she was reaching her hands out to him, to shake... However, L ignored the fact that he knew how to respond to such a greeting, instead, he ignored it, as he was supposed to. "...What was I doing when we first met?" L had asked her... It was such a strange question... He didn't stare at her at all, and his eyes remained wide open... As if hypnotized. He remained quiet.

Alicia just looked at him a incredulously. At the moment she was exerting a lot more self control than she knew she had. "When we first met you were the Overseer, trying to put me in my place. Fun times right..." She smiled a bit and looked at his eyes for a moment, before smiling even brighter. He still had the Vision, they couldn't take that from him. Putting her hand back at her side she rested her hands on her legs, leaning forward. "You're a scary sight to behold, 13... All that skill inside of you and yet you're probably the most broken out of all of us. What hope do we have if you're so far gone. She put one hand on her cross and kissed it before saying a small prayer for him. "Padre nuestro, que estás en el cielo. Santificado sea tu nombre. Venga tu reino. Hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo. Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día. Perdona nuestras ofensas, como también nosotros perdonamos a los que nos ofenden. No nos dejes caer en tentación y líbranos del mal. Amén." Looking up at him she slid the cross under her clothes and stood up, glancing at the sun. "May he watch over you 13, as your past lives have looked unto him." She walked away from him, moving towards Kota, to spend the rest of her recess with a friend.

"Well that went well." said Kota as his friend approached him. "Sit down he might as well relax as much as possible. I heard after this it's to that machine thing." He did his best to ignore his wrist, he placed it in the right place it just it would hurt until it healed. "Maybe I should of tried to attempt to counter it, I know how to do it." said Kota. "And maybe my wrist wouldn't be broken, but 13 will get his kick in the ass another day." Kota paused for a second. "The Templars are training us in this process, they rely on breaking us to keep us down, also the fact the desert is outside of here, I know basic survial and would be fine." said Kota. "The rugged part of the walked that could be used for climbing are to high up to jump to even if your jumping off of something."

Role-Call of the Subjects Empty

L had simply been glaring at the scene in front of him. His stare was blank, as if he was in a trance of some kind. He showed no sort of expression on his face. Perhaps his memory forced him to relive the scene of his kid brother, mother and father being killed over and over again. His memory was too sharp for his own good, too sharp for a human being. No one knew this however, only the Templar that controlled him, studied him and his ancestor. "...Yes, so that is how we met." He reminisced if only to feel a bit more like he had a 'self'. Without saying another word, Subject 16 spoke up once more. This time in a prayer. He was familiar with Latin prayer... But not Spanish. He didn't know very many languages... Only English, and a bit of Latin that his parents had taught him. His parents would sometimes speak french, simple terms... But, that was all. His origins never seemed to matter to him, up until he realized how seriously valued they were. She left with a parting sentence. It was nothing L really cared for. He continued observing everyone sharply. What the Subjects hadn't and wouldn't realize, is that they were being watched... By the Templar themselves. Only someone with Eagle Vision could differ who was who, or who served who... Their allegiances, their trust, their compatibility. For now... All the Subjects would be left in the dark. They had a job to do... Unlock the hidden treasures the Templar desire the most.

Alicia looked around the parapet that Kota mentioned, scanning it. She looked around and around, checking for any weak points or structural flaws but this place seemed to be built like a fortress. She sighed and stared at the sky. "If we can survive the breaking process, and absorb as much of our Ancestor's pasts as we possibly can, enough to become that person, skill wise... we might be able to escape. But Only if we survive the breaking process. 13 didn't... and who knows who he might've been in a past life." She shrugged her shoulders loosening them out. "Ayúda me..."

"Yeah I know, well ice always wanted to go to russia." It was Kota's lame try at a joke. "Where did your family come from?" Kota asked but didn't expect an answer. He yawned. "Maybe we will bump into each other in the past like you said." stated Kota. "I wonder how that will turn out." Kota laughed a bit. "Makes you wonder why we are even here..." Kota noticed the cross around Alicia's neck. "Im surprised they let you keep something like that, I went through hell to keep a deck of cards."

Role-Call of the Subjects Empty

While L had been sitting still on a bench, he was also keenly observing everyone. His eagle vision trained his eyes. They made them excellent. And while he was still he had them activated. He knew that there were some reds in the crowd of Subjects, and they knew that he knew. Templar, very closely watching over the Subjects, and stealthily. Listening to all the news around them. All the news the Assassins could come up with. Already two Subjects had spoken of escape... It was a mistake on their part, for the Templar knew. A Templar, not one undercover, had approached L. The rest of the Subjects [if they happened to be focusing on him] would be puzzled as to why a Templar was speaking so closely to one of the Subjects, of course, that Subject would be Subject 13. They were out of listening range after the Templar approached L. Now, they could speak in private.

"Hello Subject 13. I have recently received a status report. Actually, just a few seconds ago from Dr. Weinberg." The Professor informed L. "Apparently, both Subject 16 and 17 were just recently discussing escape, and methods of escape. You must maintain your watch over those two." The Doctor ordered him. "Here, take this. It is an N.U.L. tag, a special one. Dr.Umbra trusts it in your hands. It grants you the power to exert punishment, even to the extent of death. The power we [the Doctors] now share with you. Use it wisely." The Doctor said. He then calmly turned around, L didn't need to respond. If it was an order, he'd carry it out. That was how severely his willpower had been drained. He turned around and sat back on the bench. Already around 40 minutes had gone by... The Subjects would only have 20 minutes left until their free-time was over. He activated his Eagle Vision once more, and looked out to the crowd.
